Myanmar issues Copyright Registration Rules

The Myanmar Ministry of Commerce issued Copyright Registration Rules (“CRR”) via Notification No. 70/2023 on 23 October 2023. The issuance of the CRR preceded the coming into force of the Copyright Law on 31 October 2023 (“Law”).

The CRR sets out the procedure for the registration of copyright in Myanmar. It also covers the transfer of copyright or related rights from one party to another. The CRR prescribes forms for applications under the Law and specifies that applicants can be either individuals or legal organisations, and provides that registration can be carried out by a representative acting on behalf of the applicant.
