Capital Markets
Introduction of a new market
The Yangon Stock Exchange (YSX) commenced trading on 25 March 2016, and with the introduction of an official stock market, companies in Myanmar now have a dynamic channel for fundraising. With the bourse still in its nascent stages, the need for experience and expertise from practitioners familiar with the workings of capital markets and regulatory concerns, as well as the nuances and subtleties of the local market and environment, are critical to companies considering a smooth and successful listing.
Meeting capital markets' needs
We advise on an array of equity and equity-linked products, such as initial public offerings (IPOs) and listings on the YSX. We have strong capabilities in structuring innovative and complex transactions, whether of a local or cross-border nature. We are able to advise clients on their roles as issuers, underwriters, investors and/or as shareholders in equity and equity-linked offerings.
We acted as transaction counsel in the first true IPO in Myanmar by way of new share offerings on the stock exchange which generated new capital for the listed company. This was a landmark listing and set the precedent for other companies to consider an IPO as a channel for fundraising. We were also involved in the first bank listing on the bourse.
