Banking & Finance
Keeping pace with developments
The banking industry and financial markets in Myanmar have seen numerous changes in recent years, shaped by the wave of swift and wide-ranging legal and regulatory reform following the general elections of 2010. Keeping pace with developments, dealing with uncertainty and navigating new law and regulation are some of the many challenges faced which require strong resources, skills, experience and expertise.
At the forefront of banking and finance
We have been involved in several first-of-its-kind banking and finance transactions in Myanmar. We assisted seven out of the thirteen foreign banks in setting up their operations in the country, including the preparation of documentation required for financial products offered by these banks. After successfully assisting these foreign banks in establishing their branches and commencing operations, we have continued to assist and advise on Myanmar law issues, in particular, the structuring of various financing transactions or products for customers in Myanmar. We were also involved in advising a bank on the first onshore loan granted by a licensed foreign bank, as well as the lenders in the first syndicated onshore loan by a club of licensed foreign banks in Myanmar.
Spectrum of capabilities
Our capabilities span the full spectrum of financing transactions and cover all banking and finance products, including general lending, and financing involving real estate, infrastructure projects, assets and commodities. Our experience ranges from bilateral facilities to the most complicated cross-border secured and syndicated loans as well as highly structured debt financings and restructurings.
