On 16 August 2024, the Malaysian Competition Commission ("MyCC") initiated a market review on the digital economy ecosystem, which would include online advertising services, mobile operating and payment system, e-commerce, and online travel agencies. This market review aims to examine the digital economy ecosystem and its impact on the cost of living, as well as to determine whether any feature or combination of features of the digital economy would affect competition in the market. The MyCC will conduct a study on, among other things, the structure of the market concerned, the conduct of enterprises in the market, and the conduct of suppliers and consumers to the enterprises in the market.
