MyCC stands by Government’s initiative to review monopoly of Touch n’ Go

On 21 March 2023, the MyCC issued a statement lauding the decision of the Government of Malaysia to review the monopoly position currently held by Touch n’ Go (“TnG”) in the payment system for tolls and public transportation. Initiatives by the Government include:

• considering possible alternatives in order to boost competition in the relevant market segment;
• the introduction of the Multi-Land Free Flow which allows road users to pay tolls via other payment methods; and
• executing plans to develop more payment methods for public transportation.

The MyCC had stated that it will be monitoring the progress and behaviour of TnG in order to guarantee a seamless entry for new players, via the taskforce set up by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living.
