Desmond Liew Zhi Hong joins Rahmat Lim & Partners as a Tax Partner
Rahmat Lim & Partners is pleased to announce that Desmond Liew Zhi Hong has joined the Firm as a Partner, focusing on tax matters and tax disputes, effective 1 October 2024.
Desmond has experience advising corporations and high-net-worth individuals on direct and indirect tax matters related to restructuring, cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory compliance, employment, real estate, technology, media & telecommunication, intellectual property, and insurance. He represents clients in tax disputes before all levels of the Malaysian courts, the Special Commissioners of Income Tax, and the Customs Appeal Tribunal, and advises on tax audits, investigations, while also resolving tax disputes through negotiations with the Inland Revenue Board, Royal Malaysian Customs, and other regulatory authorities.
Desmond is ranked as Highly Regarded in Tax Controversy by International Tax Review: World Tax. He is also praised by clients in the Asialaw Guide for being a “fantastic lawyer with in-depth knowledge of his scope – calm, collected, and sharp.”
Prior to joining Rahmat Lim & Partners, he was a Partner at another Malaysian law firm, and before that, a tax consultant at one of the Big Four audit firms. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London and a Bachelor of Taxation from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, graduating with First Class Honours in both degrees. He is also an associate member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia.
