On 1 May 2020, the Malaysian Government announced that save for certain specific prohibited activities and businesses, economic sectors including the construction industry will be allowed to operate from 4 May 2020, subject to compliance with the Government’s SOPs.

Subject to further announcements, with the resumption of operations, employers, certifiers and contractors will be in a better position to assess the true effect of the COVID-19 outbreak on a contractor’s performance - and the extent to which additional time for completion and additional money for disruption and/or prolongation may be warranted under the contract.
