Evolving legal framework

Vietnam’s economy continues to grow with the Government’s focus on international integration and legal reform. There have been several initiatives to modernise and enhance the laws of Vietnam. The new Civil Code took effect in 2017, where provisions have been made to promote principles such as the freedom of contract and individual business autonomy. The new Law on Technology Transfer took effect in 2018, and was passed to support the growing sectors of technology and e-commerce in the country. A new merger control regime was implemented in 2020 under the new Law on Competition which took effect in 2019.
