Amendments to Infectious Diseases Act 1976 in force to update Singapore’s public health postures

On 9 April 2024, the Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Act 2024 (“Amendment Act”) came into force. The Amendment Act amends the Infectious Diseases Act 1976 (“Act”) to:
- enhance powers currently contained in the Act for the purpose of dealing with future pandemics;
- introduce a new intermediate state of a public health threat that is distinguished from a public health emergency and the measures to be taken in each case;
- amend the requirement to disclose a Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection and to update the provision in view of scientific developments; and
- make various other amendments to update the Act.
There are also related amendments to the Covid‑19 (Temporary Measures) Act 2020, the Immigration Act 1959, and the Requisition of Resources Act 1985.

Related subsidiary legislation
The Infectious Diseases (Undetectable HIV Viral Load) Regulations 2024 has been issued and will come into operation on 9 April 2024.
