Indonesia ratifies Singapore-Indonesia Extradition Treaty and Defence Cooperation Agreement
30 March 2023
In December 2022, Indonesia ratified both the Defence Cooperation Agreement (“DCA”) and Treaty for the Extradition of Fugitives with Singapore (“ET”). These agreements are part of a suite of three concluded between Singapore and Indonesia. The third, the Flight Information Region agreement, was ratified in September 2022.
The DCA and the ET were signed by the two countries in April 2007. At Indonesia’s request, the retrospective application to extradite fugitives for crimes under the ET was raised from the original 15 years as set out in 2007 agreement to 18 years in the ratified agreement. The DCA will allow the Singapore Armed Forces to train and participate in exercises in Indonesia.
