Antitrust developments in South-east Asia: July to September 2021
15 November 2021
The third quarter of 2021 continued to see a significant amount of competition law enforcement activity across the region as competition authorities concluded investigations on anti-competitive agreements and merger control assessments. Notably, Singapore’s competition authority cleared three merger notifications from July to September 2021. Regional competition authorities are also implementing changes to adapt to a post-Covid-19 era, such as the Philippines competition authority’s resumption of its motu proprio review of potentially problematic mergers and acquisitions. Further, regional authorities continue to look into issues of competition law in the digital era - authorities in Thailand are looking into a draft decree regulating digital platforms, while Malaysia’s competition authority is closely monitoring the food delivery service industry.
