MOM, NTUC and SNEF form Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness to review framework for workplace fairness in Singapore
30 August 2021
On 27 July 2021, the Ministry of Manpower (“MOM”) announced that the tripartite partners, namely MOM, National Trades Union Congress (“NTUC”) and Singapore National Employers Federation (“SNEF”), have formed a Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness (“TCWF”) to review the framework for workplace fairness in Singapore.
The committee will be co-chaired by the Minister for Manpower, NTUC Secretary-General, and SNEF President, and comprises employer, union, human resource community and senior government representatives.
The TCWF will examine policy options to strengthen efforts to tackle workplace discrimination and uphold workplace fairness, including whether legislative protections should be pursued, and if so, the appropriate scope. The TCWF will consult stakeholders, including unions and employers, as well as engage widely to get a good representation of views from society. The TCWF aims to complete its work by the first half of 2022.
Over the years, the tripartite partners have worked together to strengthen fairness at work. Key efforts include the following:
- Set-up of Tripartite Alliance for Fair and Progressive Employment Practices (TAFEP)
- Development and enforcement of the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices
- Introduction and enforcement of the Fair Consideration Framework
