Minimum wages increased by Minimum Wages Order

On 17 October 2018, the Minimum Wages Order 2018 ("2018 Order") was gazetted. The 2018 Order came into force on 1 January 2019.
The minimum wage rates payable to an employee are now MYR1,050 monthly or MYR5.05 per hour. The previous minimum wage set out in the Minimum Wages Order 2016 was MYR1,000 monthly or MYR4.81 per hour for Peninsular Malaysia, and MYR920 monthly or MYR4.42 per hour for Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan. The 2018 Order does not make a distinction in the minimum rates payable between employees in Peninsular Malaysia, and Sabah, Sarawak, and the Federal Territory of Labuan. The 2018 Order does not apply to domestic servants.
